Description: To successfully run a computer whos CPU is completely covered in mineral oil to act as a coolant.

THIS PAGE WILL TAKE A LONG TIME TO LOAD (SORRY)

First task is to find a computer in my closet that actually works.

This computer has a disk problem… lame. NEXT!

This computer’s PS2 port for the keyboard doesn’t work… wonderful. NEXT!

Ah my good old i486 FreeBSD bridge/connection piper, how I’ve missed you.

Shows how long it’s been since I’ve dragged this thing out.

I posted this in case anyone is running a FreeBSD bridge, this is a really fun thing you can do with IPFW and bandwidth pipes.

Started taking apart the computer, those lil bolts look like they’re going to be a bitch :\.

Finally got em off and threw everything in the aquarium I bought from Walmart earlier tonight under $10. You can see the hard drive sitting up on there since you don’t want any oil on the disks

Time to test to see if the computer still works. Of course I’m a dumb shit and forgot to plug in the power to the HDD, and when I try to the power supply cords don’t reach that high, so…

I create a ghetto hammock for my HDD so the power cord can fit in nicely.

Testing to see if the computer works round 2. It bitches about not being able to find the diskette drive and refuses to let me in to BIOS… fucker. So…

Ghetto rig a second hammock for my diskette drive! Now it’s bitching about my CDROM drive, for fuck’s sake, no more ghetto rigging I’m just throwing that bitch in and where it lands it stays.

HAH IT WORKS! Time to throw in the oil.

I used 6 of those little bottles from Walmart.

The CPU is completely submerged just as I was going for.

Another angle…

Moment of truth…

Looks like there wasn’t enough power to start the power supply fan up with all the resistance so I tilted the tank over more toward the CPU.

Yep…

AND SCORE IT WORKS!!!

That’s right, ghetto rigged to the max and working perfectly.

Made a quick C program to use the CPU to the max to make sure it wouldn’t fuck up, there ya go.

One final picture goodbye.

Vershun is happy it’s done with!

I’m probably going to drag it out tomorrow and do some tests for temperature and what-not, but for now I’m tired and want to go to bed. Night.

Description: To successfully create a very small “rail gun” which uses electromagnetism to propel ammo out of a straw. Here are the materials I used (the McDonalds is not necessary, but recommended).

I have magnetic wire from RadioShack, a straw from McDonalds, a cheap _FLASH_ disposable camera from Target, and some steel BBs.

Now take the magentic wire and wrap it around and around the straw. I AM NOT DONE HERE! You want it to be really thick, probably 1/4 of an inch thick coming off from the straw (I did it wrong the first time).

Now dig into that camera like it’s your job. Break everything but the little circuit board in there. See that big black thing? I SAID SEE IT NOT TOUCH IT IT’S FUCKING ANGRY. Anyway that’s our capacitor and that’s what’s going to be providing us with our pretty spark and magnetic field.

Now, connect one end of your wire to one of the connectors on the capacitor. Take a steel BB and position it (using non-conductive material) in the straw right as your wire coil is beginning. Charge up the capacitor by pressing whatever the flash charge button push down on the board. After it’s fully charged touch the end of the wire to the other connector and your BB should shoot out of the straw in a glorious display of Guass goodness.

This is my final version. The BB’s hit the ceiling pretty well but I’m sure the design can be improved (higher guage maybe?). I will play with it later.
